Artweaver is a freeware raster graphics editor for Windows developed by Boris Eyrich, mainly oriented to professional and amateur artists who are familiar with commercial programs like Adobe Photoshop and especially Corel Painter. Like the latter, Artweaver is capable of simulating a wide range of classical effects (such as oil paints, acrylics, pastels, pencils, airbrushes, etc.) to create natural-looking artistic images. It also offers effect filters like sharpen, blur, emboss, and mosaic, as well as transparency and layer support in its own AWD format. Artweaver supports most common file formats, such as BMP, GIF, JPEG, PCX, TGA, TIFF, PNG, PSD, although the .BMP, .GIF, .JPEG, and .PNG formats do not have layer support. The program also has standard image editing tools like gradient, crop, fill and selection tools (including lasso and magic wand), and pen tablet support for a realistic feeling.
Artweaver is an art supply store and a blank canvas all rolled up into one. With it, you can create your own masterpieces and experiment with the multitude of built-in tools. Choose from paint and calligraphy brushes, pens, pencils, crayons, and even sponges and brushes made to mimic famous artists like Van Gogh.
Artweaver is a program to simulate natural brush tools. It is therefore suitable to leave your creativity free run. Artweaver has various functions like realistic imitation of brushes, chalks, and charcoals, detailed adjustment possibilities for altering existing brushes and creating new custom brushes. Each brush has a control palette that opens when you select it. Users have an enormous amount of control with each tool and can fine-tune every aspect of it with the control palette. You can also record all your steps and replay them afterwards or provide them to other users. It's a robust program that has many features that are usually available only in expensive graphics programs, but Artweaver is free. You can't beat that!
